Xiaomi's Mi Mix Alpha Launched | Futuristic Smartphone but Is it Pratical ???
Every smartphone manufacturers are pushing their limit and boundaries for the innovation, especially in camera and display. Recently, we have seen Vivo Nex 3 with a waterfall screen. Xiaomi’s Mi Mix Series has been always one step ahead in terms of innovations and producing futuristic smartphones. The latest one to join is Mi Mix Alpha. This futuristic phone is wrapped of all screen, leaving rear camera panel alone. This Mi Mix Alpha has a crazy 180.6 % screen to body ratio, which is no seen in any smartphones to date.
Mi Mix Alpha Overview
Mi Mix Alpha comes in 7.92” OLED panel with the resolution of 2088 x 2250 pixels. The screen surrounds around the phone and meeting at the rear camera panel. It's almost bezel-less with just 2.15mm bezel size. There is no space for cameras, sensors or speakers. The Rear Camera Panel also works as a Front Camera with the help of a screen of the rear side. The sensors and speakers are all placed under the display. Screen Sound Technology is used in this device to transmit audio by vibrating display.
Furthermore, there are no physical buttons and are replaced by Pressure-Sensitive Buttons which are common in Huawei Mate 30 Pro and Vivo Nex 3. The company claims that there won't be accidental touches as the device uses a multisensor array and paired with AI Algorithms to avoid them. Mi Mix Alpha is a powerful device as it is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus chipset coupled with 12GB of RAM and 512 GB of UFS 3.1 Storage.
There was a talk about the collab between Xiaomi and Samsung for 108MP Camera Sensor. Now, its the reality and Mi Mix Alpha is the first one to use the image sensor. Along with 108MP main Sensor, it has a 20MP ultra-wide camera and 12MP Portrait Sensor. There is no need for a different selfie camera. We can just flip the phone to the rear side and use the same 108MP Image Sensor for talking Selfies and use the rear display as a viewfinder.
This device has 4,050mAh of battery and 40W fast charging. There is no mentioned of wireless charging. The display on the side is used for showing various indicators like the battery, network signals, BlueTooth, alarms and so on.
This is a concept phone and Xiaomi has started small trial production of this device for the public which will be available at the end of this year. The retail price of Mi Mix Alpha is 19,999 Yuan(~Rs 3,18,384 Nepali Price). Well, we should really appreciate the research done by Xiaomi for this device. Yes, this a futuristic device but is it a practical device? Firstly, the device is very much expensive and secondly, there would be various edge cases while using this phone.
