Tokyo Game Show 2020 Gets Cancelled Due to Covid-19 Outbreak

We all know that coronavirus pandemic has put all of us in a tough spot and made our lifestyle irregular. The whole world is forced to face the consequences of the Covid-19 outbreak. The tech field has also been vastly affected due to the pandemic. Many events were canceled or scrapped due to the coronavirus pandemic. So it doesn’t come as a surprise to us that the Tokyo Game Show 2020  was canceled due to the Covid-19 outbreak. Before it, the other gaming events such as E3 2020, Game Developer Conference (GDC), Gamescom, etc. were the ones to get canceled or scrapped due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

The Tokyo Game Show takes place annually every year in Japan. It is one of the biggest Game Show to be held in the world. The Tokyo Game Show 2020 was due to be held from September 24th to 27th at the Makuhari Messe convention center just outside Tokyo. It will be the first time since Tokyo Game Show started in 1996 that the event has been canceled. It is best to cancel the event as social distancing won’t be possible in such a big physical event.  

The organizers stated in a statement that,” Due to the outbreak of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) on a global scale and the situation remains unpredictable in Japan as well (sic), the organizer and the co-organizers have reached this decision after a long consideration to place the utmost priority on the health and safety of visitors, exhibitors, and stakeholders. We ask for your kind understanding and cooperation.”

And now it has been said that the Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association (CESA), Nikkei Business Publications, and Dentsu, the organizers of the Tokyo Game Show 2020 will be moving the event online. It is not disclosed as to when the event will be held online, there are also speculations that the online event might be held on the scheduled physical date i.e. September 24th to 27th 2020.

It has made a huge dent in the plans of TGS as it would be the biggest gaming event of the year before the launch of the upcoming next-gen consoles, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Microsoft and Google are expected to release new consoles for the summer holiday season. We'll be getting more information about the online event in the coming weeks. The gamers are happy that they’ll at least be getting the online event. So when we get the information, we’ll be sure to update you about it.
