Samsung Galaxy M20: New Mid-Range Contender

GadgetFrame 3 Feb, 2019

Over few years Samsung budget phone hasn’t been that exciting for most of the users. But now this is all going to change as Samsung has launched its new Galaxy M series. At first glance on the phone, it looks quite good for a mid-range phone. They went with teardrop notch which looks quite good compared to those nasty looking notches. Samsung likes to call it an Infinity V design which is just a fancy name. The whole screen looks quite bright with a 6.3 inch full HD plus TFT display with Asahi dragon trail. The screen looks vibrant and color contrast is also quite good.

The display in the device is nowhere same as the AMOLED Screens but it is great but for a mid-range device. The back side and built quality is quite poor and reminds us about those old mid-range phones which were built with plastic. Galaxy M20 is no any different as M20 has a plastic back which looks average and nothing fancy about the design when compared to side by side with phones like Redmi Note 7.

As for Fingerprint, a fingerprint sensor is positioned on the back of the phone and maybe a little higher than you expect. The fingerprint sensor is quite fast and you can unlock your phone in just the blink of an eye. It features usual buttons, the triple slot for dual Sims and micro SD and on the bottom, we have the headphone jack and the USB C port. Yes, the USB C port and that is super impressive and well it just shows that Samsung has heard the feedback so I definitely like this overall the design on the new galaxy m20. You also get features like face unlock which works pretty well and shows this really cool effect around the notch when unlocking the phone it's pretty cool.

Samsung Galaxy M20

Under the hood, Galaxy M20 features a new Exynos 7904 Octa-core (14 nm) chipset with up to 4 gigs of RAM. When compared side by side with different phones like Redmi Note 7, Max Pro M2 and Nokia 6.1 Plus, Geekbench Score is quite low for Multi-Core. But I am not going to judge Galaxy M2 on the basis of Geekbench score until I get fair and smooth running of daily used apps and games like PubG.

Let’s get to the cameras now which has traditionally been the strong point of Samsung budget phones the galaxy M20 features a 13 megapixel F 1.9 primary sensor with a 5 megapixel F 2.2 ultra-wide sensor and it has all the Samsung features like the live focus mode which is basically the portrait mode, the beauty mode and the pro mode. When it comes to the videos the phone does not support 4k video recording and can only shoot 1080p@30fps. For selfies, the galaxy m20 features and 8-megapixel f 2.0 selfie camera and it's got all the features as well as the live focus mode.

One of the best features about this phone is the battery backup as it rocks a solid Non-removable Li-Po 5000 mAh battery which is great news for those power users. Not only that with the use of USB Type C, but it also supports fast charging. Samsung has given two color options for Galaxy M20 with Ocean Blue, Charcoal Black.

Overall Galaxy M20 is a great Budget phone which has a modern display, good cameras, and a massive battery, USBC fast charging with a fast charger in the box and not to forget the headphone jack is still alive. What else do you expect from a Budget Phone from Samsung?
