OnePlus 7T Full Review: The Best Budget Flagship Phone of 2019

Sabin Tamang 14 Dec, 2019

After the launch of OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro, there was a lot of hype for these phones as these phones were the budget flagship phones. When OnePlus 7 Pro and OnePlus 7 were launched, the pro model had more features than we expected. But after the launch of OnePlus 7T, the gap between those features was narrow downed. OnePlus 7T has almost every feature that OnePlus 7 Pro had. Today we are here to review the OnePlus 7T and find out how good is this phone compared to phones like OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro.

Unboxing

OnePlus is one of those company which gives a lot of detail and attention to their packaging. OnePlus 7T comes in Red Box with a matte finish. We open the box and the first thing we get to see is the phone itself along with some paper works and documents, SIM card ejection tool, 30-watt dash charger with USB type C and a silicon case that looks great on the phone.

Design and Build Quality

Let’s start with the build quality of the phone. The phone comes with glass design on the back of the phone with corning gorilla glass 5 protection along with the aluminum frame. The phone feels great on the hand. One thing I noticed is that the phone is a bit taller compared to OnePlus 7. Being a flagship phone, there is no official IP rated water and dust.

But still, the SIM card tray along with charging port and speakers does have a rubber seal which prevents the water to get inside the phone. Which is always a great feature to have on a phone. The phone also feels thin but also a bit too big. I have big hands and still, I have to use two hands most of the time. So, if you have small hands then get ready to use both hands.

On the top of the phone we a microphone, on the right-hand side we got a power key and the alert slider and on the left side, we have volume keys. On the bottom of the phone, it has a speaker, type C, and SIM card slot. One the back of the phone, it has a triple camera set up with a circular design and has quite a big camera bump.

On the front of the phone, it features a notch similar to OnePlus 7 but is smaller compared to OnePlus 7. It doesn’t have a physical fingerprint scanner as it features an in-display sensor which is quite fast. It also has a face unlock which is also superfast and can unlock your phone in a blink.

Talking about the display of the phone, the OnePlus 7T features one of the best displays we can get on this price range. It features a 6.55 inch full HD+ 90Hz AMOLED display which onePlus calls it the “Fluid Display”. As I have mentioned earlier, the phone is slightly longer and has a 20:9 aspect ratio. With the use of a 90Hz screen, everything is far smoother and snappier compared to the normal 60Hz screen. The screen is also quite bright and colors are also great and this phone has a maximum brightness of 743 nits. So the screen is bright enough on daylight also.

Performance

OnePlus has been always been known for its performance. And the same goes for the OnePlus 7T. OnePlus 7T features the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ with Octa-core (1x2.96 GHz Kryo 485 & 3x2.42 GHz Kryo 485 & 4x1.78 GHz Kryo 485) and Adreno 640 GPU. Even the phones like Galaxy Note 10 Series, Galaxy S10 series, OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro, Redmi K20 Pro etc.

So, you can expect high-end performance from this phone. I have been using this phone for over two weeks and I am in love with this phone. Games run smoothly on this phone and there is no lag at all after 1 hour of gaming. Though the phone starts to heat up after some time.

The phone comes in two different variants i.e. 8GB/128GB and 8GB/256GB variant. Both these variants feature USF 3.0 which is also great.

One of the best features of OnePlus phone is the software experience. It comes with Oxygen 10 out of the box with Android 10. Oxygen OS includes a game-optimizer called Fnatic mode. You can choose to selectively enable it with games and it'll optimize your game by blocking notifications, disable the secondary SIM, and prime the GPU, CPU, and RAM for the best game performance.

Camera

Cameras are the aspect where it fills the huge gap indifference of cameras of OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro. OnePlus 7T features a triple camera set-up on the back with 48MP Sony IMX586 main camera with f/1.6 aperture and 0.8µm pixels, a 16MP ultra-wide camera with f/2.2 lens and 117-degree field of view, and new 12MP f/2.2 telephoto camera. OnePlus 7T has 2X zoom while OnePlus 7 Pro has 3X zoom.

Talking about the image quality, the images in good daylight conditions are good. The images are bright with natural colors along with a good dynamic range. The image has good detail with very little noise. But sometimes the images are a bit oversaturated. It’s all about preference what kind of photos you like.

Coming towards the ultra-wide-angle lens, the photos are not as good as from the main sensor. Overall photos are great with good with the wide-angle lens also. Moving on to the 12MP 2x telephoto lens, once again we see the image looks perfectly fine at first glance, with good colors and dynamic range. In low light, the photos captured from OnePlus 7T are quite great. They have good detail, bright with low noise.

In terms of video recording, the phone can record videos up to 4K @ 60 fps and overall video quality is quite great. The video has good detail in them with good colors and the videos are very stable. Overall, I like the video on this phone. You can record slow-motion videos in 1080p@240 fps and 480 fps videos in 720p. It also features a super slow-motion video at 960 fps. The 1080p slow-motion videos are quite great and I liked it a lot.

The OnePlus 7T has the same front camera as the OnePlus 7 and the OnePlus 7 Pro. The images from this front-facing camera are great in good lighting conditions with good details, colors and dynamic range. The night selfie is average and nothing great to be impressed off.

Battery

OnePlus 7T is powered by a 3800mAh battery. Not only that OnePlus 7T comes with 30-watt warp charger out of the box which can charge your phone from 0 to 100% in just 1 hour. The battery performance is also quite good as it features 90 Hz screen and consumes a lot of battery. With normal usage, it can easily last you for over 1 day easily.
