Nokia 8 Overview
Design and Display
Nokia 8 design follows a simple design pattern which does not have any exciting features. Nokia 8 is all-metal build which does not support wireless charging. Nevertheless, the phone has a USB-C port, which has become a standard these days.
The Nokia 8 has metal curves from sides to the back and has a pretty small screen by today standard’s so the phone is easy to use with one hand. Nokia 8 has big bezels which might be a problem for the users these days. There is a fingerprint scanner that doubles as a Home button at the chin.
Talking about the display, the phone packs LCD screen of 5.3 inches which has a QHD resolution and the density of 554 ppi. The 700 nits of brightness make it easy to view content on the screen, even at the outdoors and in the direct sunlight. Though there is an LCD screen, the display quality is almost to the par with AMOLEDs.

The Nokia 8 packs dual-camera at the back with 13 MP, f/2.0 aperture. It features laser & phase detection autofocus, Carl Zeiss optics, OIS, and dual-LED flash.
The phone takes decent looking pictures when there’s abundant natural light, unfortunately, it’s not with the similarly priced devices. The images clicked by Nokia 8 struggles with dynamic range, have some noises and color accuracy is not good enough. Autofocus takes time and there is certainly lag in the camera app.

Low light images are not any better from the device. The situation gets dramatic during low light shots as it takes a lot of time for focusing and the image quality is poor. The selfie shots from the front camera are good enough in good light conditions, whereas the images get out of focus in certain conditions. The same is the case in the low light conditions as your images get covered with noise.

In the video section, the videos are finely stabilized but it is not right all the time. The videos are good enough and we can capture up to 2160p @30fps and 1080p @30fps.
Software and Performance
The Nokia 8 packs the top-of-the-range Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset of that time, which were a major success in the Samsung Galaxy S8, HTC U11 and many other phones that year. The processor is coupled with 4GB of RAM and even 6GB variant as well in some selected markets. The 4GB of RAM on board is capable enough to perform well but we can see some hiccups these days.
On the software front, the Nokia 8 has already been refreshed to Android Oreo. The phone is still receiving newer updates with latest security patches till date. There were only two apps installed during the time of purchase and they are Camera and support. The less number of bloatware means happy customers.
Overall, the software on the Nokia 8 runs very well, despite some initial bugs that which people faced initially. The bugs have been fixed by HMD global soon after the phone was made available for the public.
Battery and Others
The battery in the Nokia 8 is a relatively small of 3,090mAh but this not the headache. Even though the size of the battery is not large enough but the phone does quite well in terms of battery. The battery lasts until the end of the day with medium to intensive usage which is quite good and you can expect to get a day full of battery and charge at the end.
