Aquos R5G Officially Announced | Snapdragon 865, 120Hz QHD Panel and 8K Video Recording?
In the Japanese market, Sharp has officially announced Aquos R5G. it is the first 5G smartphone of a company that got great hardware and powerful chipset. It is one of the unique smartphones with a dual notch front panel. So let’s find out in detail about this model.
Overview of Sharp Aquos R5G
Sharp Aquos R5G incorporates Snapdragon 865 Chipset which supports 5G connectivity. Similarly, the front panel has 6.5-inch QHD+ resolution 120Hz panel and there is a dual notch on the display, which seems odd at first glance. Additionally, there is a quad rear camera setup that is capable enough to capture 8K video. Aquos R5G also got IP68 water and dust resistant certification.
Chipset and Performance
Aquos R5G is powered by the latest Qualcomm processor. The Snapdragon 865 Chipset paired with Adreno 650 GPU is the latest and greatest mobile chipset available in the market. It is 25% faster and 20% power efficient than the previous generation Snapdragon 855 Chip.
Similarly, to make the device even more powerful 12GB LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB UFS 3.0 Storage Option is provided. And the good thing is Aquos R5G also supports external microSD cards to expand storage.
Display and Design
The front of the Aquos R5G is housed with a 6.5-inch QHD+ IPS LCD panel. Being an IPS panel they are able to use a 120Hz refresh rate to make content smooth. The display quality is good and looks sharp but the viewing angle and color saturation are not as vivid as AMOLED or OLED panel. The phone looks a bit weird due to dual notch. At the top, there is U shaped cut out to embed 16MP front-facing camera while at the bottom there is a physical button that also has a fingerprint sensor. The back of the panel looks nice and clean. They used a quad rear camera in a vertical camera housing.
Four cameras are bundled together in a camera housing at back. The primary 12MP sensor is equipped with OIS for better stability. Similarly, the 12MP telephoto lens also got OIS. Additionally, there is a 48MP ultrawide lens and a Time of flight sensor. About the selfie camera, there is a 16MP front-facing camera embedded in U shaped notch in a front display panel. Finally, about video recording, the main camera can record in 8K resolution which very few devices are capable of right now.
Battery and Other Features
Aquos R5G is powered by 3730 mAh battery, which is slightly smaller than what other competitors are offering right now. But the fast charging technology and battery optimization technique will allow Aquos R5G to provide power for all-day usage. About connectivity, Aquos R5G has Wi-Fi 6(802.11 ax), Bluetooth V5.1, GPS, GLONASS, NFC, etc.
Price and Availability
No official statement regarding the release and pricing of Sharp Aquos R5G has been published yet. The pone will be soon available in the market of Japan and then distributed globally. We expect Sharp Aquos R5G will be priced at $799 and the expected price of Sharp Aquos R5G in Nepal will be Rs. 94,990 for 12/256GB variant. With this specification, it will compete in a market with Mi 10 Pro, Sony Xperia 5 Plus, LG G9, Huawei P40, OnePlus 8, Black Shark 3, Galaxy S20 Ultra, etc.
